Filling the Void

If you wish to succeed in the IT Industry you should think about filling a void. Build something people will find useful for themselves or their business.

Place yourself in the position of the end-user and take your time to think about what they would need and/or find value in using.

Trying to think outside the box in this situation might help you come up with the next big thing.

In the made for TV movie “Pirates of Silicon Valley” Anthony Hall who portrays Bill Gates says

“You know how you survive? You make people need you. You survive because you make them need what you have. And then they have nowhere else to go.”

Now keep in mind this is a movie and they are trying to dramatize the scene for the audience but that statement should resonate with you. Those who provide a product or service that people have to have are the ones that tend to dominate that sector.

These are moments where one needs to create a brain storming environment so you get the juices flowing with new ideas being thrown around. Seeing what has potential and doing research on if this new idea has been done already and by who. It’s important to know what’s already out there because you can succeed in doing something that has already been done by someone else if they haven’t done it to it’s full potential.

But keep in mind it’s usually much better to do something new that nobody has ever thought about doing. What’s important and key in all of this is to do something you have a passion for because it will get you over those hurdles down the road while others who don’t have the passion might just give up in the end.

Ambition is the path to success. Persistence is the vehicle you arrive in. — Bill Bradley
